German Armenian Genocide Observer Armin T. Wegner, Turkey, 1916

German medic Armin T. Wegner, stationed in the Ottoman Empire, defied orders and took hundreds of photos of Armenians being deported from their lands in what eventually became the Armenian Genocide. Later in life he faced censure for speaking out against the persecution of Jews in the early years of Nazi Germany, eventually being forced to flee to Rome. Date unknown.
