Taken on 2015-08-13 *

The images presented in this album capture scenes of migrants attempting to make their way to the UK from the French port city of Calais, and French police and gendarme attempting to block migrants from boarding UK bound lorries and entering the euro-tunnel. The images in this photo report were taken in the Summer of 2015. The Calais migrant crisis refers to the ongoing situation involving refugees and migrants traveling from the French port city of Calais to the United Kingdom, often by crossing the Channel Tunnel or by boarding lorries heading for ferries that cross the English Channel. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, ten people have died trying to cross the Channel Tunnel since the start of June 2015. The crisis has also led to the formation of migrant camps in Calais, one of which--"the Jungle"—has been estimated to have approximately 3,000 inhabitants.
