Kukes Refugee Camp

Refugee camp near Kukës on the properties of an old mine shortly following the Kosovo War. The NATO aerial campaign intensified the war between Serbian security and Albanian separatists, leading the former (assisted by paramilitaries) to adopt a scorched earth policy in an attempt to force Albanians out of Kosovo. As a result, refugee caravans poured out of the province during the 11 week bombardment.
