Refugees in a ECHO funded camp - Bassikounou, Eastern Mauritania. Daily tasks include looking for firewood for cooking. These added demands on the environment have pushed the ecosystems far beyond their natural regeneration capacities. The Sahel is at the forefront of climate change and desertification is already a grim reality.
